Magnifique cut
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent)
MELBOURNE. The New Zealand mare, Magnifique. which galloped into Melbourne Cup favouritism with a dashing third on Saturday in the W. S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, was galloped on during the race and is receiving close attention to cuts on her off-hind leg. Her trainer, E. Temperton; said yesterday that he did not regard the cuts as serious and both he and the jockey, R. B. Marsh, reported that the mare pulled up well after exercising ness,” Temperton said, “but I yesterday morning. “There was no trace of lameam keeping a close watch on the cuts.” Temperton is treating the cuts himself, but has a qualified veterinarian making periodic checks. Temperton rated Magnifique’s run in the Cox Plate as far better than Silver Knight’s last year Silver Knight managed only an eighth placing in the event before going on to win the Melbourne Cup and Temperton said at this stage Magnifique continued to be more forward than Silver Knight.
