SITUATION AT 8 P.M. An anticyclone covering the north of the North Island is moving slowly north-east and a cold front will move rapidly east to lie east of the South Island in the morning; another cold front far to the south-west may move on to the south of the South Island late in the day, bringing a cold southerly change.
FORECASTS: CANTERBURY and KAIKOURA COAST.—Westerly winds fresh and gusty in exposed inland places, elsewhere lighter; occasional rain in the Alps, elsewhere fair; mild.
MARLBOROUGH.—North-west winds, often strong and gusty; fine and warm. NELSON.—Fresh westerlies in a few places but winds mainly moderate and variable; occasional rain in the western ranges but fine and mild elsewhere. BULLER and WESTLAND.—Moderate winds, mainly westerly; cloudy; occasional rain; moderate temperatures. OUTLOOK.—CooI southerlies but mainly fair.
