SUBURBAN WELFARE
A small welfare centre catering especially for families has been set up in the Wainoni-Aranui area. Accommodated in a Baptist church hall at present, the centre will be moved to a house in Carruthers Street soon.
It is run by the Anglican City Mission, the Bapist Association, the Presbyterian Social Services and a number of local churches. It offers minor social services, such as help with hygiene and budgeting, but acts mainly as a referral centre to more specialised services. It has assisted more than 80 families in the month it has been open. The premises are also made available to service organisations.
