‘No warfare’
As far as the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research was concerned, cooperation between it and the Ministry of Works was excellent at both local and national levels, said Mr D. J. Hogan, Acting Government Analyst, of the Division of the D.5.1.R., in Christchurch. Mr Hogan was commenting on a statement by the chairman of the North Canterbury Catchment Board (Dr W. R. Holmes), reported in “The Press” last Monday, that there appeared to be internecine warfare between the D.S.I.R. and Ministry of Works over establishment of a water-quality laboratory at Kainga.
Dr Holmes said the Minister of Works (Mr P. B. Allen) had promised two years and a half ago that the laboratory would be set up. It concerned him that the matter was still apparently being thought out
