WOMEN’S CRICKET
Mai Moa takes lead
In the first round of the women’s cricket competition which finished on Saturday. Mai Moa took the lead with a first innings win plus bonus points in its game against Hagley. Mai Moa led. on the first innings at the end of the first day. closing at 117. T Mitchell and S. Roberts had batted well, and P. Reynolds took five wickets for Hagley.
H. Kirk was the only Hagley batsman to put up any resistance with 34 not out and Hagley was bundled out for 75 in its second innings. The other senior game between St Albans and Western ended in a draw, with Western taking bonus points. At stumps on the first day. St Albans was 186 for six. It batted on for almost 30 minutes to finish with 203 for nine declared. J. Olsen bowled steadily for Western and took five wickets. Western’s innings started well, the first w-icket falling at 67. S. Cowles was the top scoring batsman with 73. Results were:— Mai Moa 117 (T. Mitchell 32, S. Roberts 25: P. Reynolds 5/29. C. Foote 2/23). beat Hagley 52 and 75 (H. Kirk 34 not out; S. Roberts 2/28, J Lee 3/19). on the first innings. St Albans 203/9 dec. (A. McKenna 53. M. Alabaster 21; J. Olsen 5/57) drew with Western, 179/5 (S. Cowles 73, E. Rouse 27. ■ K Marsh 35 not out). Junior results:— P.I.C.C 77 (S. Vaiaso 36; S.i Harris 8/23) beat St Albans 62: (T. Eves 15 not. out; G. Newport! 4/12), and 45/9 (S. Vui 21; G.j Newport 6/18). 1
