BLENHEIM, Oct. 29.
Two teen-agers were killed near Blenheim early this morning when their car ran off the Taylor Pass Road and hit a tree. Six other young people in the car are in Wairau Hospital in a satisfactory condition. Three of them are girls, aged 13 and 14. Those killed were
Wendy Warden, aged 17, a trainee nurse, of Wairau Valley, and
Anthony John Watson, aged 16, a farm labourer, of Blenheim.
The front of the car was badly crushed and the hood almost ripped off when the car became wedged under an overhanging branch. Firemen had to cut some of the passengers out. The accident happened about 1 a.m. after those in the car had been to a barbecue in the Waihopai Valley.
Candidates.—The Liberal Reform Party will contest both farming seats in Waikato. Mr R. H. T. Cameron, a 52-year-old farmer, is standing for Raglan, and Mr A. Ambury, a former farmer and now a stamp dealer,' is contesting Waikato.—(P.A.)
