Big-hitting innings
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. J. Riley, the young Auckland University batsman, broke all kinds of records by scoring 167 in the Seabrook Memorial knock-out match against HowickPakuranga yesterday . Riley, whose recent club form has not been quite in standing with his past Plunket Shield play for Canterbury and Wellington, hit form dramatically. He scored 10 sixes and 19 fours; raced from 100 (135 minutes) to 150 in only 15 minutes from 15 balls, and gained the highest score of the tournament.
“He was impossible to bowl to without being hit,” said a Howick - Pakuranga bowler afterward, a sentiment endorsed with feeling by P. Morrison, a slow left-armer. In one Morrison over, Riley scored 38—three sixes and five fours.
