CLOSING OF SHOW

Maoris on Broadway

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent)

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27. The New Zealand Maori Company’s performance of “Pacific Paradise” on Broadway, New York, closed on Saturday night. “We are going to retrench and regroup," said the show’s producer, Mr Irving Sudrow.

He added that there had been a “surge of interest” in the show and that he was negotiating on the prospects of continuing with the North American tour. “Professional interest is building, and there is now the possibility that we can continue,’’ he said. There was no question about the quality of the show, he said. The problem was simply whether they could hold on long enough for the growing interest The show, with a cast of 70 Maoris, opened at the Palace Theatre, Broadway; on October 16. Mr Sudrow hoped a three-week season there would prove possible but aimed at continuing the show at the Palace for two weeks. The New Zealand Maori Company’s chairman (Canon W. T. Huata) said that contrary to some reports, the United States tour was definitely continuing.
