ONE-TON TRIALS
Escapade’s two sths (N.Z. Press Assn. —CopvriflhO SYDNEY. The New Zealand yacht Escapade, skippered by S. Fischer, showed up disappointingly in the first two of four One-ton Cup selection trials at the week-end. In the first, the 30-mile Gascoigne Cup race off Sydney Heads on Saturday, Es-< capade could only manage fifth place. Warri, skippered by J. Bleakley, overcame shocking conditions to win the race, while the world One-ton Cup champion Stormy Petrel (C. Curran) was second and Queequee (M. Dowling) third. Yesterday, Escapade again had problems. In the early part of the second trial, she blew a head sail. But with a crewman working on the mast for most of the race. Escapade appeared to have halyard trouble and it was a good effort to finish in fifth place, 11 minutes behind the winner, Pilgrim (G. Evans). Stormy Petrel was second. In spite of its two fifth placings Escapade is in third position over-all.
