Australian’s challenger for the America’s Cup in 1974 would bear the name Australis 11, the Prime Minister (Mr McMahon) announced yesterday.
Mr McMahon said that the Perth millionaire, Mr Alan Bond, had told him his “Spirit of the West” syndicate, which would bear the cost of the challenge in 1974, would call their contender by this name.
The 1974 cup series will be sailed off Newport, Rhode Island, in September.
