The contest was sponsored by Palmer and Doak, Ltd, and was open to children living between the Waimakariri and Conway Rivers. Mr K. E. Grueber is shown presenting the bicycles to David Grovenor (right), aged six, of the Ashgrove School, Rangiora, and Barry Dodge, aged nine, of Clarkville School.
