Students on board
Students will be asked to take greater part in the administration of Lincoln College through an invitation from the Lincoln College Council for student membership of the college’s professorial board.
Sir Malcolm Bums, principal of the college, said yesterday that he welcomed the move — which would give students a greater understanding of some of the problems that had to be met. Student members of the professorial board will not have voting rights in the meantime, Sir Malcolm said, but this situation was likely to change next year when proposals for this and other changes in the Lincoln College Act were considered by Parliament.
The president of the Lincoln College Students’ Association (Mr W. R. Burge)said that student representation on the college’s professorial board would ensure the creation of a greater degree of unity in the college community. “Membership for students of what is really the governing board on campus on academic matters and discipline is a very important step forward.”
Mr Burge said that it took 24 years to gain student membership of the college council, but the recent moves had only been started in September.
“This is quick work indeed, and much appreciated.”
