Pacific bank for study
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) APIA, Sept. 26.
The South Pacific Conference has resolved to press ahead with a feasibility study on an independent regional development bank. The United Nations Development Project will be asked to consult potential donor countries to ascertain the additional capital likely to become available to the region through such a bank, and to have available at the next conference all relevant information on its financial feasibility so a decision can be made. The proposal, prepared by American Samoa, Fiji and New Caledonia, was opposed only by Papua and New Guinea which said that present sources of development funds were adequate.
