Greyhound fields depleted

Fields for the equalisator meeting of the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club next Saturday have been depleted because of injuries and seasonal complaints.

However, the two feature races should provide interesting competition because of the quality of the entries in

the Fred Hotwell Memorial and the Jim Moore 800. Shantung, Jetsam, and Cardigan Moss will take part in the first of these events, but the Jim Moore 800 is expected to draw more interest. Most of the dogs are untried over 810yds and the favourite might be Zephyr, from the kennels of the leading trainer, B. Cantwell. In training over the distance on Sunday, Zephyr was well beaten by Shantung, although not too far behind Jetsam, which is a previous winner of a two-lap race. Flat Stick, whose sire and dam were proficient stayers, may be the best of the others. Sonsic Lass has been withdrawn from the New Zealand final of the New South Wales St Leger because of a muscle injury, and has been replaced by Winsome Ways. The national final will be raced at Auckland on Saturday. Entries for the Christchurch meeting are:— Race I.—Maiden Flat (1.30 p.m.): Master Fido, Narawopa, Wee Nod, Trudy Galore. Race 2.—Novice and Limit Flat (1.50 p.m.): Moss Patches, Airborne, Roseama, James Charm, Hello Hottie, Race 3.—Progressive flat (2.10 p.m.), first leg concession double: Caranac, Amma-Zon Ace, Donovan, Hi Havoc. My Prize, Aurora.

Race 4.—Fred Horwell Memorial Stakes (2.30 p.m.): Cardigan Moss, Polaris, Jetsam, Moon Girl, Shantung. Race s.—Jim Moore 800 (3 p.m.), second leg concession double: Gidget, Zephyr, Silver Chase, Flat Stick, Mandy's Pride, Starretto, Caledonia. Race 6.—Progressive Flat (3.20 p.m.): My Prize, Wee Nell, Amma-Zon Ace, Hi Havoc, Cover Charm, Donovan.
