N.Z. team in group C of chess finals

New Zealand will compete in the finals of the twentieth world chess championships in group C. After the seventh, and last, round of the preliminary stage of the competition. New Zealand had 13.5 points, and finished fifth. The winner in its group was West Germany, with 25 points, followed by Argentina, 18.5. The first two teams of each group went into group A of the finals, the third and fourth into group B, the fifth and sixth into group C. and the seventh and eighth into group D. Final positions were: Group 1. —Russia, 22, 1; Denmark. 15, 2; Belgium, 14, 3; Cuba, 13, 4; Finland, 11.5, 5; Dominican Republic, 6,6; Luxemborug, 2.5, 7. Group 2.—Jugoslavia, 22.5, 1;
