Water rates

Sir, —The letters of “Dehydrated” and “Aquanought” uphold my contention that ours is not an isolated case of injustice relating to excess water charges. The $2O account we received this year was a distinct shock, following on years when extra washing for grandchildren had not incurred accounts for excess water. Our rates are $lO3, which should surely cover our present water use. I now feel impelled to carry buckets of rinsing water to revive parched shrubs and plants when I am already exhausted by the large amount of accumulated washing due to my efforts to conserve water. People with large families must surely have to refrain from ablutions, etc. — Yours, etc.,’ (MRS) L. E. REID. September 27, 1972. [This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.”]
