Bus stops
Sir, —Now- that certain bus trips to town from Islington have been rerouted along Gilberthorpe’s Road and Wycola Avenue, would the Transport Board advise if a bus stop could be placed in Gilberthorpes Road, say, at Kaplan Avenue or thereabouts? One very wet day recently I plodded (or paddled) down to the usual stop in Waterloo Road to catch the 10 a.m. to town, and was astounded when the bus turned into Gilberthorpes Road and went right past my gate. A stop there would be greatly appreciated by us not-so-young. Living about half-way between the Hei Hei and Islington stops, it often depends on the way of the wind or rain which one we catch. As, at •the moment, there is no stop between Waterloo Road and Manurere Street, would the bus stop and pick up if we just waited along the way in hope?—Yours, etc., GRANDMA. September 1, 1972. [Mr J. F. Fardell, chairman of the Christchurch Transport Board, replies: “It would have been possible to put a stop at Gilberthorpes Road if there had been a passenger potential for it, but, owing to the poor patronage of the trips that have been run this way from the housing estate, the service will be discon-
tinued from October 2, 1972.”]
