SITUATION AT 8 P.M.
A slow-moving anticyclone is centred just west of North Cape; a weak cold front is moving slowly north-east over central New Zealand and another, more active, cold front is approaching the south-west of the South Island. FORECASTS: BULLER and NORTH WESTLAND.— Moderate variable winds; mainly fine; moderate temperatures. SOUTH WESTLAND—Moderate northwest winds; showers this morning but improving from the south-west later and the winds turning westerly. NELSON.—Westerlies fresh at times in the north, otherwise light or moderate variable winds; scattered light drizzle clearing this morning; becoming partly cloudy and mild. MARLBOROUGH.—Moderate or fresh north-westerlies; scattered drizzle clearing this morning; becoming partly cloudy and mild. CANTERBURY and KAIKOURA COAST. —Moderate variable winds; showers in the Alps, otherwise partly cloudy and mild; a brief south-west change about noon may bring a few showers. OUTLOOK.—Showers on the West Coast, elsewhere mainly fine.
