Miss Hunter out
Miss S. Hunter, the 16year - old Christchurch schoolgirl, missed reaching the final of the 400 metres individual women’s medley by one place. She finished second in her heat to Miss G. Petrova (Russia) through in faster times than Miss Hunter’s. In the .last heat, Miss L. Cliff (Canada) was just outside the old Olympic mark in smin B.64sec, and the American swimmer, Miss M. Montgomery, was second in a time .85sec faster than Miss Hunter to clinch the eighth place for this evening’s final.
