CARTERTON

T.A.B. double: races 6 and S

"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Heckle's Choice has not raced since winning at Levin at the end of last month, but even so he should extend his record and win the West Derby Handicap, first leg of the Carterton Racing Club's meeting to be held at Tauherenikau today. Heckle’s Choice could not have been more impressive when he won at Levin from Origin and Blue Robin. A five-year-old by

Better Honey, his form before that had been good, and even his draw of 15 should not bother him too much

Black Charm, a winner at Hastings on Saturday, could add to her record here. Her form cannot be faulted, and at best she is always hard to topple. Spa was third at Marton last time, his best form for a while, and with the services of the promising apprentice, G. Julius, he could run close again. Twitchit has come solid. She won on the first day at Hastings and only just went under to Black Charm on the second.

Magnifique will resume over ground. She needed the run at Levin last month, and also had an outing at Tuesday’s matinee, but may still need a race or two yet to bring her close to her best.

The Riccarton trainer, D. J. Thistoll, has two runners entered, Regal Ration and Foreign Aid. Regal Ration has won three of lus last four races and looks an outstanding prospect. He won by three lengths on a heavy Riccarton track last Saturday.

Foreign Aid was third behind Lynwood Lass on Riccarton’s middle day. his first outing since May, and he should be all the better for it.

Disarmed may be a hope. He was most impressive when winning at Awapuni, and then last week was making ground when second to Father John.

Altar Boy turned in a fine effort when resuming at Levin last month, and could continue with his form by winning the Taratahl Handicap, the second leg. At Levin, Altar Boy made ground solidly for fourth, and at this stage of his campaign should be ready to run a bold seven furlongs. Tassel seems to save her best for Trentham, although a year ago she finished second to Spa in the Taratahi. She has more sprint form than most in the second leg. King Owen may be hard to beat. He looked impressive at Levin when he made ground for fourth. From a good draw, he should race well.

The top-weight, Ayub Khan, was never sighted in his one outing at Riccarton, but he could still run well. There will also be a good deal of interest in the effort of Leon, which has ifot raced since the beginning of the year. He has the ability, and might be a place chance. Mystic Dancer is one for longer odds, although the heavier the track, the better her chance. Cheryl Marie could upset, and Moidart must also be considered.
