Question of colours
Confusion has occurred over the suggestion that owners should race horses in their own colours at trotting meetings where trainers have two or more horses in a race, according to the secretary of the Trotting Conference (Mr J. Rowley). The chief stipendiary steward (Mr L. A. Butterfield) feels that under his interpretation of the rules concerned, all owners should have registered colours, but they have the option whether their horses race in these or in the colours of trainers, he said. The question will be referred to the rules committee of the conference, for changes to be made so that owners should have their own colours to be used when their trainer has two or more horses in a race. "When a trainer has only one horse in a race, it can race either in the colours of the owner or the trainer,” Mr Rowley said.
