Ski-ing upset by wind
"The Press” Special Service QUEENSTOWN. The national ski championships at Coronet Peak suffered a major set-back yesterday when high winds forced the closure of the chair-lift all day. Together with the soft snow, this meant that the non-stop training run for the downhill event had to be cancelled.
Yesterday’s bad weather also means that the non-stop run, the downhill and the national jump will all have to be held today—the last day of the championships. C. Womersley (Canterbury) should, barring accidents, regain his national title from R. Ewington (Hawera) —providing he performs well in the downhill.
The defending women’s champion, Miss R. Willis (Taumarunui), appears to nave lost her title after her dismal tenth placing in the slalom. Her sister. Miss S, Willis (Otago), is the favourite for the combined title.
