Mathematical contest

Primary school pupils throughout Canterbury are at present preparing for the first mathematical exhibition in the South Island designed to cater for children from Form I to Form IV. To be known as Cantamath ’72. the exhibition will be held in the Horticultural Hall on August 11. Arranged by the Canterbury Mathematical Association the competitions are designed to give scope to younger pupils in view of the success that has been noted in the past with competitions for sixth and seventh form pupils. Three sections comprise the competition, for which substantial prizes have been presented by business firms. The sections are: posters, charts and designs, models, apparatus and puzzles, and a contest m which teams of four will attempt to solve mathematical problems while working against the clock.
