Racecourse Hotel
For the race-goer, or people wanting a quiet, friendly atmosphere close to town, where they can listen to pleasant music whilst having a quiet drink, the Racecourse Hotel in Upper Riccarton is sure to find favour. Amongst the more interesting features of this hotel is the “Hoofbeats Bar” which has on the wall the “Scroll of Honour.” This features all the winners of the New Zealand Cup, Derby and Oaks from their beginning to the present time. Its vicinity to the racecourse ensures meeting in-
teresting people from all over the country as well as many regular local patrons, who keep returning to this comfortable friendly place. An added attraction at the Racecourse Hotel is the entertainment provided by the Doug Gribbin duo, a group that play predominantly old-time swing music. For the convenience of the public there is a drive-in bottle store, with a comprehensive range of New Zealand and imported wines. Visitors are assurred of a warm welcome from the proprietors, Bev. and Colin Weir.
