Car insurance cuts in U.S.

(N.Z. Press

NEW YORK, July 12

The United States Insurance Services Office has recommended to its membercompanies a 10 per cent reduction in collision-insurance on 1973 cars, because of improved equipment. Mr Richard Savage, the vice-president of the advisory organisation, said today that hundreds of insurance companies affiliated with the office were likely to put the reduced rates into effect, with a potential saving to consumers of SUS2Om.

“The impact is on 1973 models,” he said. “If the improved bumpers show that losses are reduced by more than 10 per cent, even further savings will be passed on to the motorist.” New Federal standards making obligatory bumpers which prevent damage to headlights, safer door latches, improved fuel and cooling systems, and other equipment, are credited with reducing the cost of repairs.
