CHATHAMS SCHOOLS
No change in
location
(From Our Own Reporterj WELLINGTON, July 11. The existing primary schools at Te One and Owenga on the Chatham Islands will be retained. The possible establishment of a composite school providing both primary and secondary education at Wa ; tangi, or the establishment of a central primary school at the same location, had been under consideration. The decision to grant secondary pupils from the Chatham Islands attending schools in New Zealand free transport to and fr>m the islands each term, together with the increase in boarding allowances announced in the Budget, largely overcame any present need for local secondary school facilities. Existing primary schools will be retained and improved where necessary.
The classroom building from Te Kairakau will be moved to Te One to replace the existing manual training centre. The building is in good condition and can be converted to provide modern manual training facili ies.
