Rankings in tennis

The former New Zealand Davis Cup players, R. N. [ Hawkes, who has left Christchurch to live in Wellington again, has been ranked top of the Canterbury men’s tennis list for the 1971-72 season. The rankings were issued by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association last evening. Hawkes was top of the Canterbury Wilding Shied team and played for it even after he had returned to Wellington. The other three members of the side are ranked in order behind him —C. G. Judge, second, W. Edgecumbe, third, and S. Menzies, fourth. Top of the women’s list is Mrs R. Hunt, the former Miss R. Legge, who is at present playing overseas. Second is Mrs J. Langsford, formerly Miss J. Habgood. The lists are:— Men.—R. N. Hawkes 1, C. G. Judge 2, W. Edgecumbe 3, S. Menzies 4. B. J. Aldridge 5, J.
