Police block deferred

(From Our Own Reporter)

WELLINGTON, July 12. Because the number of single policemen is smaller than expected, the building of the third stage of the Christchurch central police station will be deferred. Work on the 130-bed barrack block was to have begun next financial year, for completion in 1976. “Earlier staffing predictions in so far as single policemen are concerned have not reached expectations,” said the Minister of Police (Mr P. B. Allen) today in a written reply to a question by Mr B. G. Barclay (Lab., Christchurch Central). This stage of the complex would be deferred, at least in the meantime, said Mr Allen.
