WINTER CHILLS

Christchurch’s usually warm reception to the N.Z.B.C. symphony orchestra was not matched last evening when the winter chills “froze” some of the wind instruments, delaying the orchestra’s full rehearsal. The Civic Theatre’s draughts and cool temperatures took their toll on the delicate wind instruments of the orchestra and their players had to wait for about 20 minutes until the air was warm enough for a full rehearsal to begin. The guest conductor of the orchestra, New Zea-land-bom Mr John Matheson, said that it took a little time for the rehearsal to get under way.
