Sponsorship scheme

(N.Z. Press Association)

DUNEDIN, July 3.

New Zealanders will be able to sponsor the secondary education of rural African children in South Africa under a New Zealand National Council of Churches scheme announced in Dunedin today. A $lOO sponsorship will maintain a pupil for a year, according to the council’s associate general sceretary (the Rev. R. M. O’Grady). The South African Council of Churches would select pupils for sponsorship but the New Zealand sponsors would be expected to write to them, giving encouragement, said Mr O’Grady.
