FANCIERS’ SHOW
Championships awarded The Ashburton Fanciers* Society’s eighty-first annual show, which opened in Ashburton yesterday, attracted poultry of “outstanding’’ quality according to the Judges of several classes. The snow is one of the largest In New Zealand, with 1605 entries this year from all parts of New Zealand. Six New Zealand and nine South Island championships were at stake. The award for the best bird In the show went to J. J. Topp, of Rangiora, with his entry of a Brown Leghorn pullet. This bird was also the best light, breeds bird in the show. The show will continue today, with judging of the cats section, and a children’s pets parade this afternoon. Championship awards were:— NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP* Poultry.—Brown Leghorn, female: J. J. Topp (Rangiora). Duck—Pekin: W. J. Dickie (Lyndhurst). Pigeons.—Homer, blue, old bird, female: J. D. Galth (Christchurch). Homer, pied, young bird, female: C. C. Minty (Christchurch). Flown homer, 200 and under 299 miles, female: Hillview Farm (Oamaru). Fancy pigeon, Modena Gazzi, female: B W. Marshall (Christchurch). SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
