Additions to be built to Shirley B.H.S.
Shirley Boys* High School will undergo major additions and alterations. They include the building of a new twostorey block containing a laboratory, three classrooms, and other ancillary accommodation; an audio-visual centre and alterations to the senior studies section, and probably the administrative block. The Ministry of Works is now working on sketch plans and cost estimate. The school’s board of-gov-ernors was' concerned yesterday that a letter from the Department of Education listing the proposed alterations and extensions made no mention of work on the administrative quarters.
The board’s chairman (Mr G. McNally) said that these quarters presented some of the most crucial work to be done. “The conditions under which the principal works in the school office are most unsatisfactory,” he said. The board’s secretary (Mr P. J. Halligan) said that it was most unlikely that the department had refused work on the administrative block. It had probably excluded' the administrative "block from its list because it would be at least two years before work on the first buildings began; and in any event, work on the administrative quarters would be the last started, Mr Halligan said. t ■
