Another for G. Carson
(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE. Lord Montinl, ridden by the New Zealand jockey, G. Carson, won the Glamis Steeplechase (2}m) at Flemington yesterday to give Carson his eighth win in his last 10 jumping rides. Starting equal second favour, ite at 4/1, the New Zealand-bred Lord Montini won by half a head from another New Zealand horse, Ramlegh (11/2), in a tight finish. Valgo, the 7/4 favourite, was four lengths away third. Before yesterday’s $4500 dollar event, Valgo had been a clear favourite for the Grand National Steeple (3m and If) on July 8. But with his exciting win. plus the fact that Carson had decided to stick with the Tsaoko-Crimson Princess gelding in all his leadup races as well, Lord Montint might chaUenge for favouritism.
