Barter shop planned

The clang of cash registers will be absent from a shop to be set up in Christchurch soon. It will be a “love” shop organised by a group of students of the University of Canterbury. Many of the students who will set up the shop, which will be run on a barter system, are members of the Ecology Action Committee. Clothes and a wide assortment of non-perishable goods will be handled by the shop, which will be similar to ones already set up in Auckland and Hamilton. “It really is our aim to see that useful goods are reused. One person may have something of no use to him that will prove very useful to another person. It is really going to be a matter of each one helping the other out I suppose,” a spokesman for the organisers said last evening. All the organisers are looking for now is a place in which to set up their shop.
