GAIN FOR MARIST
Coast rep. joining Canterbury Rugby — and in particular the Marist club — should benefit by the add tion to its ranks next month of the promising West Coast and Buller five-eighths, B. N. Stewart.
A younger brother of the Wellington five-eighths of the early 19605, C. J. Stewart, he is being transferred to Christchurch from Greymouth by his employers, the Bank of New Zealand. He played seven times for Buller in 1969 and 1970 and last winter appeared for West Coast in all seven of its representative fixtures. He was also in the combined West Coast-Buller team which met the Lions and scored the combined team’s only try of the game. He has been nominated by the West Coast union for the New Zealand colts team to tour Australia in May and June, a team which will be chosen this week-end. The Marist senior coach (Mr T. M. Hannan) confirmed yesterday that Stewart would be playing for Marist at first five-eighths.
