High stakes in Sydney

(N.Z. Preis Association) SYDNEY. More than $400,000 in stakes will be available at Harold Park over a three-month period in Sydney early next year. Record prize money for horses of all ages and classes will be available and New South Wales Trotting Club officials said yesterday they expected a big influx of horses from outside New South Wales. The series will begin with the summer carnival over three nights on January 12, 19 and 26. Total prize money will be $BO,OOO, with the final of the Summer Cup on the last night of the meeting worth $20,000. The New r South Wales club will host the 1973 Inter-Dominion Championships in February with record prize money at stake. Over the four nights of the carnival, $183,000 will be available, with qualifying divisions in the pacing championship worth $5OOO, and the Grand Final worth $50,000. The Trotting Championship final will be worth $lO,OOO, with $2500 at stake in the qualifying divisions. Two weeks after the InterDominion final, the $40,000 Craven Filter Miracle Mile will be run, on March 16, while the club’s three-night Easter carnival will begin on April 13. Races on the Easter carnival programme will be worth a total of $70,000.
