No sign of tramper
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, April 6. Working in what were described as “terrible conditions” parties continued to search in heavy rain in the Burke River area of South Westland today for the missing Dunedin tramper, Brian Marshall, aged 22. Mr Marshall went ahead of five companions when they were making their way to the road on Tuesday, but could not be found when they came out of the bush. The main task for the day had been completed with no results, the commander of the Greymouth police district (Chief Inspector C. McKenzie) said late this afternoon. “The searchers are working under very difficult conditions. One party is not expected out until near nightfall, being involved in very rough conditions in the Burke Gorge area,” he said. The searchers are being accommodated at Makarora station. “They will spend the night there, and will be ready to spend another day in the field tomorrow,” said Mr McKenzie.
