Sir, — The upper Clutha hydro-electric proposals are estimated to yield annual outputs between 4486 and 5015 gigawatt hours, The Manapouri scheme was estimated to yield 4500 g.w.h. per annum without either control at Te Anau or raising Lake Manapouri. Perhaps the economists commissioned by Comalco to calculate the possible benefits to New Zealand of selling 3984 g.wli. of Manapouri power to a foreign company would now like to try their hands at calculating the cost to New Zealand of drowned townships, farms, and roads in the upper Clutha Valley.— Yours, etc., P.
