STALEMATE. March 29, 1972.

Sir, —Professor Stephenson was correct about Victoria Square being well suited for the future Town Hall, library, and administration centre. Victoria Square, or Market Square, has always been a city centre. I hope the original arrangement for buying Victoria Street land is continuing as it would be a terrible tragedy if any of this land were sold privately and then developed in such a way that the council could not buy it except at a highly inflated price. Looking at our Town Hall now, it appears that Professor Stephenson had initiative and his views should be respected. Our elected council was voted in by the people. Such important subjects as the library, administration block and Town Hall site should be put to a public vote.—Yours, etc., MOORHOUSE. March 27, 1972.
