PEACE, PLEASE. March 28, 1972.
Sir, —I seem to remember a lot of criticism of the design for the Commonwealth Games pool to be built on the Centennial Pool site. “Second rate,” cried our present council. “We must have first-rate facilities all sited together.” Now the same council not only finds a tenth-rate makeshift administration block acceptable, but seems to think it quite in line to destroy Professor Stephenson’s concept of one large civic centre. I would remind “Library Subscriber” that the present library is sited on what will be a rip-roaring one-way street that will make Manchester Street look positively tranquil by comparison—that is, unless this council continues its petty policy and changes that also.—Yours, etc.,
