“Gale Is Dead” wins awards

8.8.C.-2’s “Man Alive” documentary “Gale Is Dead” won three out of seven major awards at the twelfth Monte Carlo Television Festival—the Silver Nymph for the best documentary, the U.N.D.A. International Catholic Association Award, and the critics* prize for the best programme entered for the festival. "Gale Is Dead" was first shown on 8.8. C.-2 in May, 1970, where it received considerable praise from both critics and public and was quickly repeated on 8.8. C.-l in June, 1970. It told the story of Gale, a good looking, intelligent girl bom in March, 1950, and who died in January, 1970, aged 19, a drug addict.

Directed by Jenny Barraclough, "Gale Is Dead” has also been bought and shown

in countries -in Europe, in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan and the United States. Jenny Barraclough has already won an award this year for another "Man Alive” production, The Society of Film and Television Arts special award for factual production, for “Women In Prison.” The 8.8. C.-Universal Coproduction "Snow Goose” starring Richard Harris and Jenny Agutter has also won a Silver Nymph Award. The Paul Gallico story, adapted by him for television was seen on 8.8. C.-2 at Christmas.

"The Snow Goose” was produced for the 8.8. C. by Innes Lloyd and directed by Patrick Garland. It will screen from CHTV3 tomorrow evening.
