Eight Charolais calves rising 12 months shipped to Australia in January, fetched an Australian and New Zealand breed record price at auction last week, said Wright Stephenson and Company, Ltd, today. Offered at the Glen Parc red beef sale at Mittagong, New South Wales, last Tuesday, the eight head realised $158,000. Top price, and an Australian and New Zealand record, was $48,000 for a 15-16-bred bull calf. Other prices were $37,000 for a purebred Charolais bull, $24,000 for a purebred Charolais heifer, $26,000 for a 15-16 heifer. $lO,OOO for a 7-8 heifer, $6OOO for a 7-8 bull, $5OOO fofa 7-8 bull and $2OOO for a 7-8 bull. Some calves were by an English Charolais sire Carabinier, and others by Overhall Eruption, a New Zealand sire owned by International Genetics, Ltd, on whose behalf the stock was shipped.
