Defections expected
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright/ WASHINGTON, March 23. Three of the five trade union members of President Nixon’s Pay Board, which controls wage increases, intend to resign today, placing the future of the board in jeopardy. The impending resignations from the board of 15 experts were announced by the giant A.F.L.-CJ.O. Federation. Administration members have admitted that without labour support the board would become meaningless. The three members due to resign are Mr George Meany, the leader of the American Federation of Labour Con* grass of Industrial Organisations; Mr I. W. Abel, president of the United Steelworkers' Union; and Mr Floyd Smith, president of the Machinists’ Union. The board is made up equally, of five labour, five management, and five public representatives.
