OPTION FOR STAFF
The Public Service Association had obtained a legal opinion that non-nursing staff in psychiatric hospitals could not be compelled to join trade unions but could remain with the P.S.A. if they wished to, the acting general secretary of the P.S.A. (Mr A. J. White) said in Wellington yesterday. The P.SA. members in the i Sunnyside and Templeton Hospitals have been informed i of this and it is thought un- ; likely that they will take any . action in the meantime. Mr White spoke to "The 1 Press” by telephone after ■ meeting between the national executive of the P.S.A. and the Federation of Labour where it was agreed that the status quo should apply to , workers in psychiatric hospitals “at least for the present” ' A committee being set up ,of representatives of the . P.S.A. and the unions con 4 cemed will meet next week!
