Disneyland fence

Sir,—Does the Disneyland circus have legal authority to erect fences around its tents in the park? I understand that this land is public; domain. When the popular Moscow Circus visited Christchurch and used virtually the same site its managers did dot find it necessary either to erect an “iron curtain* around the big top or employ a private security force to control the public on its own land, especially when the New Zealand police were also; as to be expected, in attendance. — Yours, etc., J. M. GIRDWOOD. February 11, 1972. [The Town Clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) replies: “In accordance with the Reserves and Domains Act, 1953, the Commissioner of Crown Lands has empowered the council to authorise the promoters of ‘Disney on Parade’ to enjoy the exclusive use of a portion of North Hagley Park for a limited period, during

which time the public is excluded from access thereto, other than by payment of admission charges. The council has given the required public notice in the daily newspapers of the authority so granted, and the admission fees to be charged. A copy of the correspondent’s letter has been referred to a representative of the Australian theatre management for comments concerning security measures.”]
