LANGUAGE REVIEW
A review of statutes on obscene or indecent language was called for by a meeting of the University of Canterbury Students’ Association. It was “utterly unrealistic”, the meeting agreed, that wotds which were in common use should be punishable by law. Until the Government changed the existing laws the double standard on the ,use of words would only be accentuated.
Words, the meeting decided, could not be indecent in themselves.
