POLICE DOGS
More use planned
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 22. Police dogs on short leads would be used on more and more occasions at demonstrations, said the Minister of Police (Mr Allen). ' If people came close enough to be bitten, the responsibility was theirs, he said.
Law and order must be maintained; the wishes of the majority of the people must be carried out.
“When they ask for the police to protect either life or property they expect the police to carry it out and this we will do.
“So long as I am Minister of Police, dogs will be used on more and more occasions,” said Mr Allen. Mr Allen said he had no intention of setting up an inquiry into police action against demonstrators at Mount John.
No requests had been re- : ceived for such an inquiry, and Mr Allen said he had no ; intention of having every action of the police investigated.
