British investment
The “Economist” has suggested that a British relaxation of “voluntary” controls on investment in Australia may be announced in the Budget. The magazine said that the return on Australian investment was now running at nearly 8$ per cent and it seemed unnecessarily stringent to insist that the foreign exchange cost of any investment must be recouped within three years. It said Australia as a politically stable source of minerals was no mean attraction and added that the last Aus-tralian-British Trade Association survey showed Australian concern about the flow of British capital to Australia after Common Market entry. —(P.A)
