Release of internees

(N.Z. Press Atsn.—Copyright) BELFAST, March 8.

Forty-five internees have been freed by the Northern Ireland Government, but four more who had been recommended for release have refused to give certain required undertakings, and are still being held.

The recommendations for release came from the advisory ■ committee appointed after internment was introduced last August. In all, 460 cases have been considered, but 345 of the men involved have refused to appear before the committee. There are now 685 internees in Northern Ireland, most of them at the Long Kesh camp, a few miles from Belfast, and the remainder at Magilligan, in County Londonderry.
