Anne Gable, would be retired after the Chalmers Handicap at Wellington, her part-owner and breeder, Mr P. J. B. Smith, of Upper Aramaho, said on Wedn<Mr ’Smith races the Le Filou— Avonlea mare In partnership with the Hawera trainer, W. MeEwan. After some splendid preChristmas performances, which produced wins at Levin and Wanganui, she was unplaced in the Auckland Cup when cut by a flying racing plate. She later failed in the Wellington Cup and Wanganui Cup. - “There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with the mare,’’ Mr Smith said. “But she's just not racing at her best. If she doesn’t improve this week, there’s a strong possibility that she will be retired to the stud.”
